Post-Construction BMP Inspection and Maintenance

One of Whitson CM’s core responsibilities to our partners is to help them remain in compliance with environmental regulations after the completion of their projects. Contractors seeking to close out their projects are still subject to certain regulations in the 2022 Construction General Permit that define how stormwater runoff is handled after the project’s completion, typically through the implementation of post-construction BMPs. Every new construction site in the state of California that has over 5000 square feet of impermeable surfacing, for example, must bring the entire site back to pre-development run-off levels, otherwise known as “runoff equalization.” Furthermore, all such projects must not only implement some sort of stormwater treatment technology (including permeable surfacing, tank systems, infiltration, bio-retention, and high flow bio-filtration technologies), but these systems must in turn be inspected and maintained on an annual basis prior to each year’s rainy season. All owners are also required to enter into maintenance agreements with third party inspection and management companies before a Notice of Termination can be filed.

As experts in stormwater treatment and environmental compliance, Whitson CM will inspect and maintain any and all post-construction BMPs regardless of the manufacturer’s specifications, both on an as-needed basis or annually. When working as inspectors, our team will subcontract out any maintenance work required, as we believe it represents a conflict of interest for us to recommend certain maintenance and then stand to make a profit from it. As an A licensed general contractor, we will secure competitive bids for third party contractors to perform all required maintenance, in order to maintain the integrity of the inspection in question. Our team will supervise any and all maintenance being performed, and will ensure that the systems will continue to function as intended for years to come.
